What are Playgroups?
A playgroup is a small gathering of parents/caregivers and their
children, all of a similar age, who meet on a regular basis. The group may share schedules,
professions, backgrounds, hobbies and more; but they especially relate to wanting and
needing their kids to play with others in a comfortable setting, whether a park or home.
Playgroups also introduce children to social interaction outside of
their family--playing together, sharing, and learning from each other. It also provides
much-needed adult interaction for the parents and caregivers.
The Parent Circle offers two types of Playgroups to fit the needs of every family.
- Drop-in Playgroup
During the warm weather months, drop-in playgroup travels
to playgrounds around our area. It's a great way to get to know your
neighborhood and try out some new parks. We try to go to playgrounds that
have areas for all ages. Whether you have a crawler or a climber, everyone
can have fun. These playgroups are always held weather permitting.
In the winter we meet somewhere indoors where
we have access to a wide variety of toys. It's a great way for your little ones
to run off their cabin fever without running all over your house! Drop-in playgroup
is generally in the morning, twice a month. The day can vary from season to season and is decided by
the drop-in playgroup chairperson. The exact information for each playgroup is in our monthly
newsletter. If you have questions or a location suggestion,
contact the drop-in playgroup chairperson.
When we are indoors, it's easy to find us; but are you worried you won't
be able to locate us at an outdoor playgroup? Don't worry! Just look for the
yellow buckets (yes, even if there's no sand) that say The Parent Circle. You can
also let the chairperson know that you will be coming and they will look out for
you! < back
